On April 19, 2016 TEDxYouth@Buffalo’S 2016 Speaker Conference entitled “Empower YOUth” comes to SUNY Buffalo State featuring a full day of super-powered talks from community influencers. Each presentation will showcase the speakers’ unique talents from Kenyan drum circles and the base guitar, to the rhythmic patterns of keyboards and power tools.

The conference, an independent TED style event, is celebrating its third year in Western New York and focuses on the needs of a young adult audience. Hosted by Adriana “Adri. V” Viverette-Gamble, the day will kick off at 9am with the youngest speakers to greet the TEDxYouth@Buffalo stage so far. The West brothers, Jeremiah, age 11 and Joshua, age 9, will share their “Champions of Change” messaging about the importance of financial literacy and giving back.

Other speakers in the lineup include The Foundry executive director, Megan McNally; 14 year old professional photographer, Anna Zhang; world music performer Griffin Brady and his eclectic drum band Slykumu; Monet Lewis, a SUNY Buffalo State graduate student and College Student Association Senator; local musician and U.S. Marine, Zuri Appleby; Girl Code It founder Lena Levine; and Robin Bishop and Christine Dwyer of Danceability Inc.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self- organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).
